Georgie the Hairdresser 29th April

This weekend I wanted to cut my brother's hair.

Yes, what am I thinking? I have been watching YouTube videos and I am not a professional!
Also I had to persuade Mum to let me.

Then I used my clippers to blend. I used number five first, after that I went at the bottom with a three.

I didn't video me cutting the top. All I did was I got a guide and followed it around the head.
I like doing it.  Next  time I want to cut Mum's hair.

Alec's opinion : "he likes it."
Mum's opinion:"she was surprised at how good it was ."
Grandma's opinion:.......................?

Weekend project 24th April

This weekend, we made a bird box.

Firstly, we cut the wood out and the measurements were:  base was 150 x 190mm, back was 400 x 190mm, sides were 300 x 250 x190mm, the roof was 200x190mm and the front was 250 x190mm.

Secondly, we sanded the paint off before making the hole.  This was difficult because it was hard to get the drill right to the bottom.

Thirdly, we use the nails to nail the wood together. Then we added the hinge on by screwing it onto the back and roof.

Fourthly, it was painting time! We painted our bird house a cream brown colour, we needed to use a water-based paint.  We did 2 coats to protect the wood from the rain.

Finally, we added the black fabric to stop any rain from running down the join where the hinge is.  We needed to hang it out of direct sun light because the chicks will cook in the sun.

I really enjoy this project because I like woodwork.

How to make Cinnamon Buns 10th Saturday April

On Saturday, I made cinnamon buns  for my family dessert. I used a recipe  from "The Very Best Baking  Book for Children "

Here's is the recipe:

 250g ( 9oz)  strong white bread flour
  7g     (1/4 oz ) easy - blend dried yeast
1 teaspoon of caster sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
100ml  milk
50g ( 2oz ) butter
1 medium egg
50g (2oz) brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon runny honey

Method  - dough

1. Put the flour, yeast, caster sugar and salt in a large bowl and stir.
2.  Put the milk and 25g (1oz) of butter in a pan.  Put the pan over a low heat until the butter melts.  Turn off the heat.
3.  Break the egg into a cup and beat it with a fork.
4.  Add the milk and egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir until it comes together in a ball.
5. Put the dough on a clean surface dusted with flour.  Knead it for 10 minutes, until it is smooth and springy.
6.  Leave the dough, in a clean bowl, to prove for 1.5-2 hours.
7.  After this time, the dough should have doubled in size.  Knead it again gently to squeeze out any air bubbles.
8.  Put the remaining 25g (1oz) butter in a pan.  Heat gently.  When the butter melts, take the pan off the heat, stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon.

9.  Roll out the dough into a rectangle around 20x40cm.  Spread the butter mixture over it, leaving the edges bare.  Roll it up from one of the long ends.
10.  Cut across the roll to make 9 pieces.  Arrange them in the tin in 3 rows of 3, then cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place to rise.  Leave for 40 minutes.

11. Heat the oven to 220 C or gas mark 7. Take off the tea towel and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the buns are golden brown.
12.  Leave the buns to cool for 15 minutes.  Then, turn the tin upside down over a wire rack and shake so that the buns pop out. Turn them over and ice them. Yum!

Back Yard Brute 5th Sunday

On Sunday , my family and I did the Backyard Brute.
The stations consisted of run over the water tanks , swing ball, 3 basket ball shots , roll the tyre up a hill, balance  aross the retaing wall and a hop scotch. My favorite part was coming through the finish line, because I got a drink of water.

Here are our times :

Mum 2.42
Dad 3.14
Alec 4.34
Georgie 3.48

I think mum won because she was wearing  trainers.
Trainers give you grip and balance.

IT WAS GREAT FUN
